Alonso firmly responds to rumors about his departure from Aston Martin
The rumor of Alonso's departure fueled social media for several days. During a press conference, the Spaniard firmly denied these speculations.

The topic of Fernando Alonso has taken a prominent place on social media. Several rumors were circulating about the Spaniard moving to another team or even leaving Formula 1 altogether. However, Alonso firmly denied the speculations. “These are nothing but rumors, normal stories in the paddock, coming from people who are just trying to have a laugh and gain some followers,” said the two-time world champion during a press conference before the start of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
I will ensure that there are consequences.
The rumor emerged on Sunday after a tweet by Spanish journalist Albert Fabrega. In his post, he talks about a story that was taking place within the paddock. Various social media users seized on it and created an unfounded rumor about Fernando Alonso leaving.
“I don’t appreciate these stories,” declared the Aston Martin pilot. “I appreciate that in this room you are all professional journalists. You have been in Formula 1 for several years. You have earned our respect and that’s how it should always be. So, all the rumors come from people who are not in this room. They are simply here to have fun, and I don’t think it’s funny when they play with this kind of thing (…). I will make sure there are consequences.”
A convincing season.
Since the second part of the 2023 season, Aston Martin has not been as performing as in the first Grand Prix. The improvements made have not brought significant added value to the performances, unlike its competitors. However, Alonso explained that it was necessary to keep an overall perspective on 2023.
“We are obviously not as competitive as we would like to be,” he declared. “We are all trying to regain our best level, which is obviously not the current one. We are analyzing some of the updates we have recently made. In Brazil, we have a sprint format, so it might be a more traditional weekend for us, without as much experimentation as in the last two. Mike Krack is not satisfied with the current form, nobody is. But seven podiums this year, 200 more points than last year, all these things do not reflect the current form. We should not be satisfied, but we cannot be too dramatic either about this 2023 campaign, which is a great season for us.”
Currently Aston Martin is 5th in the constructor ranking.
