A grandstand roof flies away at Interlagos at the end of the qualifying session
It was a real storm that hit Interlagos at the end of the qualifiers. To the point that the roof of a grandstand flew off while it was still full of spectators!

The F1 came very close to a tragedy. Not on the track but in the stands. The Q3 was marked by a violent storm, even by Brazilian standards where heavy tropical showers are common. The drivers were only able to make one attempt during this third part of the session before the clouds covered the circuit. Shortly after, a deluge struck, to the point where it could have felt like nighttime even though it was only 4 p.m.
Even for Interlagos, the change in weather was extraordinary 🤯#F1 #BrazilGP pic.twitter.com/kMsMOCU9dj

If Formula 1 shared these impressive images on its networks, it carefully avoided broadcasting the ones from the stands. Indeed, the roof of the last turn’s stand simply couldn’t withstand the strong winds! The metal sheet was thus blown away before falling back down. However, the aforementioned stand was still filled with spectators!
At the time of writing these lines, no casualties were to be deplored. There is very little chance that the roof will be repaired tomorrow. Therefore, spectators will be exposed to the elements, unless the promoter and the FIA decide to prohibit access in case the structure has been damaged by strong winds and rain.
