“In September of last year, France Télévisions announced that it would drastically reduce its broadcasting time allocated to the Dakar Rally starting from 2024. With only a summary in ‘Tout le sport’ instead of three daily appointments as before, rally-raid fans were eagerly waiting to find out how to follow Peterhansel, Loeb, and their fellow competitors next January.”

The wait is over as the channel L’Equipe has just announced that it will dedicate four hours daily to the Dakar rally during the event which will take place from January 5th to January 19th, 2024. From 12pm to 2pm, the live show “Le grand direct” will allow viewers to follow the finish of the stage of the day, presented by Messaoud Benterki. At 6:20pm, “Le journal du Dakar” will recap the major events of the stage in a summary of about ten minutes. Lastly, “Le Grand Résumé” will provide a more in-depth review of the previous day’s action from 8pm until 9pm. This show will be re-broadcasted the next day from 11am to 12pm.

In total, around ten people including four special correspondents will be deployed on site, for what will be the fifth edition of the Dakar held in Saudi Arabia.

“The Dakar is part of the French sporting heritage,” declared Jérôme Saporito, Director of TV at L’Equipe. “It is the traditional January meeting for all automobile and motorcycle fans, and it is also a human adventure bringing together nearly 850 participants. That is why the L’Équipe group has positioned itself with an exceptional setup for this event, which encompasses everything that sports can offer in terms of suspense, thrills, emotions, as well as an escape from everyday life and a dream come true.”

After the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which the channel owned by the Amaury group has been broadcasting for several years, it will therefore be another legendary race that motorsports fans will be able to follow on channel 21 of the digital terrestrial television.
