Andretti has a strong desire and has clearly expressed it. The American company wants to enter Formula 1 by 2025, if possible. The manufacturer has demonstrated its capabilities in front of the FIA, which has judged that all the criteria have been fulfilled. However, the team’s entry depends on a commercial agreement with the FOM, and the group will only accept the addition of an 11th team if the economic benefits remain attractive.

In the event of Andretti’s entry into Formula 1, the team has agreed with General Motors to use engines from the Cadillac brand.

General Motors is committed to partnering with Andretti

The arrival of General Motors in Formula 1 with Andretti would bring a lot to the FIA. The automotive federation is aware that General Motors would allow it to conquer the American market. In this perspective, some rumors suggested that if Andretti did not enter, General Motors could have found another entry point. However, the group’s president Mark Reuss stated that GM is committed to partnering with Andretti to compete in F1, according to The Associated Press. The collaboration between Andretti-Cadillac brings together two unique entities built for racing, both with extensive experience in global motorsports.

No agreement with another manufacturer

The possibility of General Motors teaming up with another team has been discussed in the paddock. The director of Williams, James Vowles, explained that he was not opposed to the arrival of an 11th team, as long as financial shares did not decrease significantly. He openly considered a partnership with the American group if the opportunity arose.

« We have been clear from the beginning, ready to welcome new entities, but the cake needs to grow rather than shrink. Currently, it is shrinking. To clarify, this is not directed against Andretti or GM, on the contrary. I welcome GM with open arms and hope to establish a relationship with them if things don’t work out. They are an incredible entity that, I believe, will improve the sport (…). But they are clearly linked to Andretti, it’s not a question of that, and we are not in negotiations with them at the moment. »

Andretti and General Motors hope to join Formula 1 from 2025.
