The F1 Drivers’ Golf Tournament will take place just before the Las Vegas GP
It's a new concept by Netflix that will bring together two very different sports, Golf and Formula 1. More specifically, four professional golfers who belong to the PGA Tour, the professional male golf circuit mainly played in the United States. These golfers will be paired with four F1 drivers in a golf game that promises to be quite fun.
On the occasion of the arrival of Formula 1 in the American city, Netflix will organize its first live-streamed event on its platform. This initiative is part of its desire to enter the sports business, as stated by Ted Sarandos, the co-CEO of the company. The Netflix Cup 2023 will take place at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas, United States, and will involve F1 drivers and professional golfers from the PGA Tour. The tournament will be held a few days before the Las Vegas Grand Prix, next Tuesday.
Justin Thomas will be partnered with Carlos Sainz, Rickie Fowler with Lando Norris, Collin Morikawa with Pierre Gasly, and Max Homa with Alexander Albon.
In the press conference after the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Lando Norris talked a bit about the event: “I don’t know if I’m allowed or not, but of course, Rickie Fowler. He’s a good guy. I’ve been watching all the guys and Rickie has been in better shape lately compared to how he was at the beginning of the year and these past two years.”
I am very enthusiastic. This will be Netflix’s first live event, which is very exciting. It’s a great journey. And yes, I don’t know how the event will unfold, but I’m sure it will be great and a lot of fun.
Emily Prazer, sales manager of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, stated about Netflix: “The success of Drive to Survive has played a significant role in the growth of Formula 1 in the United States, which ultimately led to the addition of a third American race. It is only fitting that we launch our first race weekend with a fun event that will be streamed by F1 and PGA Tour fans worldwide.”
The Netflix Cup will be broadcasted live on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. The tournament will take place at 11 PM, French time, but will be live on Netflix for subscribers, as well as available on demand after the event.
