Zhou Guanyu wants to organize a “clean weekend” in Las Vegas to help Alfa Romeo in the constructor championship

Zhou Guanyu was interviewed in the pre-race press conference by the FIA. The opportunity for the Alfa Romeo driver to show his excitement to race in Las Vegas, to assess his team’s recent performances, as well as the fight for the constructors’ championship.

« I have never been to Vegas before. This is the first time I’m coming here. It’s amazing to see. I feel like the people here, every day, only live the nights. I’m obviously here for the race. It’s a cool city, just to explore a bit. I was here two days ago, my family is here too », Zhou Guanyu excitedly said.

The jet lag is there, especially after experiencing a triple-header, you come back home for a week, you go back to the factory for the simulator, and you’re back here. I tried to be as early as possible, but it’s the same for everyone. But that’s the whole problem with the busy schedule. I think everyone has to live this way at the moment, explains the Chinese pilot.

The troubles of Alfa Romeo

This means that we have to continue working hard. To develop, mainly. All this lack of performance in general, and as we have said for next year, we have another concept, let’s say, for the car design and with the current Car of the Year. But we also see some strong points. You know, the car, especially on a single lap pace, we had in Mexico was quite strong. Austin wasn’t so bad, but then the race pace, I think, is where the long distance was overheating, we had a bit of a struggle, he explains.

« But we certainly reviewed a lot of information over the past week, making sure that we can finish the season on a high note, and we are using the next two races to gain a full understanding for the future development of next season. So we can still compete closely with all the guys, and I don’t see why we couldn’t do it. But it was really three frustrating races, especially coming back from São Paulo, after the drama at the start, we were running quite well, at least one car, both cars in the points in that race, but then we had a double retirement due to some issues », he continues.

The fight for the constructor championship

From my side, I think AlphaTauri has been extremely fast recently and has raced with Mercedes and Ferrari in the past few race weekends. We are not far off, but it’s difficult to reach. And then, I don’t want to say that we are looking behind, so we just want to focus on our work and try to seize the opportunities if they are on the table for us, and see what happens. Being focused on having a clean weekend, which we haven’t had in many races, positively impacts the Alfa Romeo driver.
