A onboard camera tour of the Las Vegas circuit with the safety car
Formula 1 discovers a new circuit this weekend in Las Vegas. While the drivers have only experienced it in simulators so far, no images of the actual circuit have leaked yet. Here are the first ones.
It is the safety car driven by Bernd Maylander that will have been the first car to drive through the streets of Las Vegas as part of the F1 circuit. Bernd Maylander is the driver of the safety car. He must practice driving on this track that he is not familiar with, and for the occasion, F1 recorded the lap and published it on their social media platforms.
The layout of Las Vegas is unique. It traverses the main boulevards of Las Vegas, including the Strip, and circles around the sphere, the recently inaugurated giant screen in the shape of a sphere.
With a length of 6,110 km, it consists of few turns but very long straight lines. The estimated time is around 1m33 per lap, but the F1 cars will be driving this week in very cold weather conditions. Therefore, it is not certain that the real time will be optimized compared to the teams’ simulations.
