The FIA has ruled on a ban on developing the 2026 F1 cars before 2025

At the dawn of a brand-new F1 regulation, which in terms of innovation truly represents the future, teams have been prohibited from working on F1 cars for 2026 before the beginning of 2025, which is just about ten months earlier.

The F1 commission met this week and the teams, the leaders of F1 (Liberty Media) and the FIA (International Automobile Federation) agreed that no one will start working on the development of the 2026 Formula 1 models before at least the beginning of the year 2025.

In 2026, Formula 1 will experience a small upheaval with revised engine and technical regulations to simplify the engine’s operation and align its technology more closely with road vehicles. This will also improve the spectacle for the spectators on site, with more noise, as well as providing more action on TV.

The regulations are constantly evolving and the teams for the 2026 season have not been determined yet, so it would be unfair for certain teams with larger budgets like Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, or even Aston Martin, to start developing 2026 car models very early.

Thus, the committee stated that no work could be done on the development of a car for the 2026 season before the beginning of 2025, according to the press release published this Friday, November 24th.

The teams are indeed not yet determined. Andretti could enter the Formula 1 world championship, while smaller teams like Haas or Sauber, which will depend heavily on Audi, either do not have the financial capacity to develop race cars so early, or do not have the organization yet.
