It will be necessary to wait until mid-February to see the return of F1 in 2024 during the winter tests

The Sakhir Circuit in Bahrain will host the pre-season winter testing for the third consecutive year. It will take place from February 21st to 23rd, 2024, one week before the first Grand Prix of the season on the same track.

In addition to hosting the first Grand Prix of the 2024 season, Bahrain will also host the F1 winter tests. Since 2022, the Middle Eastern country has had exclusive rights to host these pre-season winter tests. These tests will take place over three days, from February 21 to 23, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, French time. The FIA, the teams, and F1 have reached an agreement to extend the original end date of the tests, which was initially set for February 19. Motors Inside will be on-site as they were this year to bring you live coverage of the event.

These tests are an opportunity for the different teams to test their new Formula 1 cars, whose liveries are announced a few weeks before the start of the season. While F1 has often visited Barcelona in recent years, teams prefer to race on this Middle Eastern track for two reasons. Firstly, to have higher temperatures than in Europe, as the temperature in winter is often near 0°C. Secondly, because F1 wants to limit its carbon footprint in order to achieve ‘zero emissions’ by 2030. Therefore, the Barcelona track will not host the teams before the start of the 2024 season.

Kick-off of the 2024 season, one week later

The F1 season will officially begin the following week, on the same Sakhir track, and will be the first of the 24 races in 2024, an absolute record in the history of F1. The previous record for races in a season was 22 in 2023. It will also be longer, starting on March 2nd and ending on December 8th in Abu Dhabi.
