The number of people who have driven what is statistically the largest Formula 1 car of all time is only five. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez tested the RB19 throughout the year, while Jake Dennis and Isack Hadjar also took part in the Abu Dhabi tests, and in Dennis’s case, the post-season tests.

It is David Coulthard who is therefore the fifth fortunate one to be able to get on board the single-seater. He, who is the ambassador for Red Bull and a 13-time Grand Prix winner, is also the very first driver for the team. Coulthard joined Red Bull in 2005 for the final chapter of his long career, scoring the team’s first points and podium before retiring with a DNF at turn 1 during the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix.

Apart from weekends and official Grand Prix tests, each team is allowed to run a current car for 100 km, twice a year.

Aged 52, the former driver had the opportunity to get back behind the wheel of an F1 car and discover a generation of racing cars that is naturally very different from the ones he was driving in the early 2000s. Red Bull has released a video on their YouTube channel (which can be found above) to listen to the Scotsman talk about the car and, of course, to see him drive.
