Carlos Sainz’s future in F1 is unclear. The Spanish driver joined Scuderia Ferrari in 2021 and quickly established himself as a reliable asset for the reds. He clinched two victories in three seasons, at the British Grand Prix in 2022 and in Singapore this year.

Despite his good results, his contract with Ferrari ends at the end of 2024, just like his teammate. However, according to information from Gazetta Dello Sport, the Monegasque could sign a five-season contract extension, while Sainz is not guaranteed to stay with the reds, even if he wants to.

« I don’t want to start the season without knowing where I’m going to go. My priority is to stay at Ferrari for many more years. I’m very happy, both parties are very happy, and the goal is to continue together. But we must reach an agreement and we have these three months until the next race to reach this agreement », hopes Carlos Sainz.

« I will try to make a decision before the end of the year »

In an interview given to Canal+, Frédéric Vasseur stated that negotiations with his drivers are continuing, but that there is no rush for the extension of contracts for Leclerc and Sainz.

« We still have many weeks and months ahead of us. I said that I will try to make a decision before the end of the year. But I must admit that the last part of the season has been a big mess for everyone and very exhausting. There have been meetings and we have started discussions, but we are late compared to the initial plan. But this is not a problem at all. We are going slowly and we will make a decision soon », declares the Frenchman.

Trained by the Ferrari Driver Academy, Leclerc could stay for many more seasons at Maranello, if Sainz were to leave, he could bounce back to Sauber, future Audi, to start a new project. With 14 drivers whose contract ends in 2024, the transfer market could be lively.
