Bruno Famin is convinced that the changes at Alpine mark the beginning of a new state of mind
Alpine has made some drastic changes. Bruno Famin believes that these changes are moving Alpine in the right direction.

The summer period was very turbulent within Alpine. The French team thanked its team director, Otmar Szafnauer, and the sports director Alan Permane after the Belgian Grand Prix. This revolution within the group began at the start of July with the departure of the CEO, Laurent Rossi. In the wake of these changes, the technical director, Pat Fry, decided to leave the tricolor team to join Williams.
Following the announcement of these four departures, Renault’s CEO, Luca de Meo, has appointed Bruno Famin as the interim director of Alpine in Formula 1. However, at the end of the year, Alpine recorded one last departure, that of its race director, Davide Brivio.
Alpine on the right path
Since August, Bruno Famin has been running Alpine, a team in difficulty for the 2023 season. After finishing the 2022 season in 4th place in the championship, the French team is struggling to regain performance. The departure of the previous season’s leader, Fernando Alonso, had repercussions on the accounting front, his contribution seemingly having been missed in the development of the single-seater. Moreover, in 2023, reliability seems to have been less present than the previous season. The two drivers regularly retired, resulting in a loss of valuable points. In total, Alpine scored 53 units less than in 2022, ranking 6th in the championship. Despite this, Bruno Famin remains optimistic about Alpine’s future for the upcoming seasons.
« We have made quite significant changes since the end of July within the team, thus creating a new mindset trackside », the French director said at a press conference. « I’m quite satisfied with what I’ve seen so far. I think we have carried out very good races since then in terms of strategy execution. »
Optimize the potential
Alpine has suffered from a lack of performance, particularly in terms of speed. The engine seems to be below that of its competitors. Although Esteban Ocon won a podium in Monaco, where speed is less crucial, the team has encountered difficulties. During the Belgian Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly had one of Alpine’s best weekends, although the very changing conditions compensated for the shortcomings of the A523. The Norman driver owes his result more to his driving level and good strategies than to the performance of his single-seater.
Aware of these difficulties, Bruno Famin assured that the French manufacturer would maximize the potential of its factories. « I am constantly evaluating with the two factories, really seeking to extract more performance », affirmed the acting director of Alpine. « I think one of the keys is to bring all the people together to work as a team: the two sites, but also within each of the sites, in order to exploit all the potential we have. We have a lot of potential, but the difficulty lies in bringing everyone together to create more performance, this is what I am currently evaluating. »
In the duel of drivers at Alpine, Pierre Gasly finished ahead of Esteban Ocon with four additional points in the championship.
