“The F2 and F1 are too far apart in terms of settings and performance, according to Logan Sargeant.”
The 2023 season was difficult for Logan Sargeant. The American was largely outperformed by his teammate, he had numerous accidents, and only scored one point. However, the Williams driver partly justifies his season by pointing out a significant difference in behavior between F2 and F1 cars.

Logan Sargeant was thrown into the world of F1 after just one season in F2, where he finished fourth in the championship. Williams wanted to replace an underperforming Nicholas Latifi, and after seeing Nyck de Vries chosen by AlphaTauri, the British team promoted the American from their academy. His nationality, as well as his sponsors, were additional reasons for his appointment in 2023.
But Sargeant may have arrived too early in F1 and his first season in the discipline is not brilliant. He scored only one point throughout the season, was widely beaten by his teammate Alexander Albon, and had numerous accidents.
« There are so many small details in Formula 1 »
The last driver to have extended his contract until 2024, Logan Sargeant, acknowledged having had a difficult first season of learning. The American is trying to justify his mistakes by the significant difference in performance between F1 and F2.
(I) I think that the cars in both categories are probably a little too far apart. There are so many small details in Formula 1. And there are so many other factors that play a role in your performance in the car, unlike in Formula 2. And that’s where something is missing, explains the American.
« In Formula 2, you just have to enter and drive. But in Formula 1, there are so many things that need to be correct before you can be fast. Additionally, in my opinion, Formula 2 cars are not fast enough », says the Williams driver.
It is true that the old F2 cars were aerodynamically different from the 2022 F1 cars and had a difference of nearly 400 horsepower between the two categories. That’s why a new type of F2 cars will be introduced this year. They will be much closer in terms of the nose, wings, and floor to the new F1 cars.
