The Monza circuit is embarking on crucial works for its future in F1
The historic Italian circuit began this week with major works to modernize the track and its infrastructure.
In this early year of 2024, a new era is starting at Monza, on one of the most legendary circuits of the calendar. Despite its fame, the Temple of Speed has not yet secured its future in Formula 1, as its contract expires in 2025. In order to consolidate its long-term future, the Italian circuit has launched major renovation works, affecting both the layout and the facilities.
Indeed, infrastructure is nowadays a crucial factor in accommodating the world of Formula 1. Stefano Domenicali, CEO of F1, had already emphasized this fact last year when discussing the future of Monza. The historical value of Monza is beyond doubt, but we must also keep up with our times in terms of services, which should be suitable for the prices paid by those who come to the circuit. Within a year, we will have a clear vision for the future, announced the Italian boss. The plans were already on the table for Formula 1 executives, and they have been launched at the beginning of this month of January.
Present during the opening ceremony via videoconference, the CEO of F1 pinpointed the poor reception of VIPs in previous seasons. “It is an important goal for us,” states Domenicali. “We must be able to host our guests in a proper facility instead of under a tent, as was the case until last year,” he insists.
In addition to that, other interventions are clearly necessary for the future. Monza has a great heritage, but we also need to look towards the future and propose a circuit that is on par with the other tracks in the World Championship.
The details of all the amenities
The inauguration ceremony was marked by a press conference from the president of the Italian Automobile Club, Angelo Sticchi Damiani. Our main objective is to bring the racetrack up to standard, declares the Italian.
We can no longer afford to have problems with the flow of spectators, and we need to offer better comfort to those who come to the circuit. We have set ourselves three objectives to best meet the demands that are made to us, and among these, the first concerns the underground passages, reminds the president of the ACI.
The second objective is related to the stands. We still have many temporary structures, so we will build more solid ones that will offer all the facilities expected by today’s spectators. Each stand will be a place with all the necessary services inside, so that the audience doesn’t have to move, he continued.
Finally, a permanent roof will be built on the stand building. The support pillars will be reinforced as the structure will grow taller, concluded Sticchi Damiani.
