Austin, Miami, Las Vegas... and Chicago? Formula 1 has filed a trademark for "Grand Prix de Chicago," thereby raising the possibility of a fourth race on American soil.

For a few years now, Formula 1 has not hidden its desire to continue its expansion in the United States. In addition to the series “Drive To Survive” which has attracted a significant number of American fans to the sport, F1 has strengthened its presence in the United States in recent seasons.

In 2022, the Miami Grand Prix was added to the calendar, and it was followed last year by the Las Vegas night race. These two events accompany the United States Grand Prix on the calendar, which has been held in Austin since 2012, now allowing the United States to host three Formula 1 races.

A next Grand Prix in Chicago?

Formula One Licensing BV, which is the organization responsible for trademark registration, has filed the following trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office:

– Grand Prix de Chicago

– Grand Prix de Formule 1 de Chicago

– Chicago Grand Prix

– Grand Prix de Formule 1 de Chicago

However, this could simply be a move by Formula 1 to protect these names, as nothing has been officially confirmed regarding a Grand Prix in Chicago in the near future.

At a time when Formula 1 is considering more races in urban areas, and following the announcement of a Grand Prix on the streets of Madrid in 2026, Chicago could be a potential destination for the F1 paddock.
