Carlos Sainz’s future is more than uncertain. The Spanish driver will no longer be with Ferrari after the 2024 season. With Lewis Hamilton signing and Charles Leclerc extending his contract, it is indeed Sainz who finds himself compelled to search for a new team.

His departure is a rather complex situation. Although Ferrari has not officially announced the end of their partnership, it was Carlos Sainz Jr who first announced his departure on his social media platforms. As a result, he only has one more season left with the Scuderia.

However, despite his worrying situation, the two-time Grand Prix winner remains calm and is ready to start his final Italian season. “I’m fine, I’m calm, we’re working for the future but especially for what we have ahead of us,” the former Renault driver said to Sky Sports. “It’s a very important year, my last year with the team, and I want to do my best. I’m training to prepare myself as best as I can and give it my all.”

No disappointment

Ferrari has moved forward its 2025 season by one year. Charles Leclerc extended his contract for several seasons a few weeks ago. This signing implies the exclusion of Carlos Sainz from future projects, as discussions between Ferrari and the Spaniard were not progressing. In this scenario, the son of the recent Dakar winner affirmed that he is not burdened by this situation.

“That did not disappoint me,” he said. “Having seen Ferrari from the inside, I already knew several things and I have prepared myself for the upcoming changes. As I said, I don’t want to think about anything else than how to give it my all this season for Ferrari.”

Rumors that are intensifying.

Since this announcement, rumors about him have been circulating. Speculations suggest that Carlos Sainz Jr may end up at Mercedes, Red Bull, or even Sauber (which will become Audi in 2026). Despite these rumors gaining traction, the 29-year-old athlete is preparing to start the 2024 season like any previous seasons.

“To know that this is the last year with a team is not the most normal thing to start a new season,” conceded the Ferrari driver. “But as soon as I put on my helmet in Bahrain and I’m on the track, you can be sure that I will only think about going as fast as possible. And if there’s a chance to become world champion, I will seize it.”

Carlos Sainz Jr. will conclude his third year at Ferrari in 2024.
