Mercedes AMG F1 signs the ‘Climate Pledge’ and becomes the first in F1
The Mercedes AMG F1 team has committed to the climate. This agreement should allow the team to achieve the zero-emission goal.

Mercedes continues to work in favor of ecology. The German team is one of the most advanced teams when it comes to being green. Since 2020, Toto Wolff’s team has obtained the three-star accreditation granted by the FIA. Mercedes was the first team to gather all the necessary details to obtain this ecological qualification.
Always in this concern to be more environmentally friendly, the Grays have become the first team in motorsport to sign the Climate Pledge.
The commitment was born in 2019. The initiative came from Global Optimism and Amazon in order to reduce CO2 emissions to zero by 2040. Mercedes joins the 450 groups that have already signed this climate commitment.
“The signing of the climate commitment is another demonstration of our intention to perform at the highest level in terms of sustainability,” explained Toto Wolff in a statement published on the team’s website. “We want to win through sustainable performance. As a team, we are making progress in our journey to achieve our goal of net zero emissions controlled by the racing team by 2030. We have already taken bold steps to significantly reduce our emissions by purchasing alternative fuels for ground and air transportation.”
Transparency in strategies
The signature of this commitment reaffirms Mercedes’ intention to shift towards an ecological transition. This consolidates our dedication to sustainability and our strategy for zero emissions, stated Alice Ashpitel, Head of Sustainability at Mercedes. We have already taken significant steps towards net zero emissions through our biofuel initiatives and investment in sustainable aviation fuel. With sustainability integrated throughout our team, we are on track to achieve our goals and help our suppliers go further and faster.
Climate Pledge members commit to transparency in their decarbonization strategy as well as their actions to neutralize any remaining emissions. The compensations must be measurable, real, and permanent. They must also have social benefits. The entry of a Formula 1 constructor into these agreements is seen favorably.
« We need all sectors to join us in reducing global emissions, which is why we are thrilled to welcome the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 team in climate commitment,” said Sally Fouts, Global Head of Climate Engagement at Amazon. « We are looking forward to collaborating with the team on solutions as they rush towards achieving net zero emissions by 2040.
