Lance Stroll satisfied with Aston Martin project’s progress

Aston Martin showed impressive progress between 2022 and 2023. The British team needs to confirm this and use the mistakes of 2023 as room for improvement in the coming season.

Aston Martin must confirm its new form. During the 2023 season, the British project began to show its progress. The team concluded the season with a 5th place in the constructors’ championship and over 200 additional points. Despite a rather unsuccessful development in the second half of the year, the progress is there. Furthermore, Aston Martin has anticipated the development of the AMR24.

Since Fernando Alonso’s arrival, the concessions and sacrifices made by the team are finally visible. 2023 has been a satisfying year, with a 4th place in the driver’s championship as well.

Progress margins

Given the progress made by Aston Martin, it is difficult to criticize anything about the season. Everything was far from perfect, but for a first season at this level, the performances and attitude are more than encouraging. The difficulties encountered in the previous season must now become areas for improvement for 2024. Starting with the second driver, Lance Stroll.

While his start to the 2023 season was rather promising, the overall year has been challenging. On-track mistakes, a lack of performance, and above all, a significant gap in skill level compared to his teammate. While Fernando Alonso accrued 204 points, Lance Stroll only managed 74. Furthermore, off-track, he has provided fewer elements of progress to his engineers. In terms of performance, the 25-year-old athlete could be considered on the hot seat within a team aiming to take another step forward. However, his unique status somewhat guarantees him a seat as long as Lawrence Stroll remains at the helm of Aston Martin.

During the inauguration of the English single-seater, different media outlets asked if this position was indeed acquired. However, Lance Stroll somewhat dodged the question, replying, “Right now, I am focusing on this year. I am driving in green and I am very motivated, but also excited and happy to be part of this incredible project that we are leading at AMF1.”

A project that is evolving

Lance Stroll has experienced the changes within his team. The 25-year-old driver joined the team (also known as Racing Point) in 2019. Having been with the team for six seasons, he has contributed to the development of the project with Sergio Perez, Sebastian Vettel, and Fernando Alonso. The son of the Aston Martin CEO acknowledges that he has witnessed the project take on a new dimension.

“We have grown so much as a team over the past five years,” reminisced Lance Stroll. “There have been many talented individuals here for a long time before Aston Martin, and along with many of these talented people, a lot of new talented individuals have recently joined the team in the past two years. We have a new factory, a new wind tunnel under construction. The times are exciting right now at Aston Martin. I am looking forward to the upcoming season.”

Lance Stroll has an indefinite contract with Aston Martin.
