Bahrain pre-season tests: Number of laps covered by teams and drivers
The first assessment of the three days of winter testing in Bahrain concerns track attendance. The teams drove hard over the three days. Haas was the most enduring and Williams the least.
Haas was the team that completed the most laps on the track with a total of 441 laps over these three days of testing. The team covered a total of 2386 kilometers. The two drivers of the team drove a lot, with 239 laps for Magnussen and 202 laps for Hülkenberg. The team has shown reliability from the start of the season.
The second team that drove the most covered 130 kms less over the course of these three days, compared to Haas. This is the Scuderia Ferrari with 416 laps. The red team also took full advantage of their three days without experiencing any major incidents, except for the damaged floor due to the water evacuation grid.
Red Bull is the third team with the most laps completed: 390. This represents 2110 km and 11.56% fewer laps than Haas. The team notably drove with Verstappen (4th in the list of drivers who completed the most laps), while Perez is in 14th place of this ranking. The team did indeed encounter some reliability issues on day 2, when the Red Bull had to stay in the garage longer than expected.
Aston Martin and Stake Sauber are tied for 4th place in the ranking of teams that have covered the most distance, with 2045 km and 378 laps completed. This represents 14.3% fewer laps than Haas in comparison.
V-CARB is the 6th team in this ranking. The team drove a lot on day 1 and 2 but experienced reliability issues on the last day, notably with Yuki Tsunoda being stuck in his box for some time. It is the first team to have covered less than 2000 km in this ranking.
In 8th position, it’s Alpine who completed “only” 333 laps for 1802 km. It’s nonetheless, in comparison, 80 laps less than Ferrari or 25% fewer laps than Haas. So, it’s valuable time that hasn’t been utilized by the French team to better understand and prepare its car for the first Grand Prix in just one week.
McLaren has covered 40 kms less than Alpine. The team stayed in the pits for a while, especially on day 1, but everything was decided this Friday morning when Norris had to leave his cockpit prematurely for repairs on the McLaren. He was only able to complete 20 laps.
Williams is the last team in this ranking. The team has therefore driven less than its competitors, and significantly so, as this represents a difference of 32% compared to Haas, for example, which is approximately 700 kilometers.
