During the Jeddah Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz had to step away from the paddock for a moment to have his appendix removed. Handing over his steering wheel to rookie Oliver Bearman, who showed a very good performance, the Spanish driver gave us an impressive comeback tonight during the Australian Grand Prix.

While fighting for his pole position against Max Verstappen, he eventually soared after the Dutchman’s early retirement from the race due to an engine problem. The Spanish driver even built a significant lead over his Monegasque teammate. Therefore, he secures his second driver of the day award after his first one at the Sakhir circuit during the opening Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain. « It was a very good race for me, everything went well even though it was a bit tough physically. I was able to manage my pace, my tires. I am very proud of the team and happy with the one-two finish. Returning to Bahrain, the appendicitis in Jeddah, victory here. »

Ferrari double

Starting second on the grid, the Ferrari driver allows his team to score more crucial points for this season. But Sainz is not alone on the podium, his teammate Charles Leclerc follows him in second place ahead of Lando Norris who completes the podium.

Already very impressive during the qualifying this weekend where he was challenging Verstappen, Carlos Sainz was able to take the lead during the race and managed to slip without too much difficulty into the wake of the Red Bull before his retirement.

Scuderia Ferrari therefore signs its very first double of the season and the first since the Bahrain GP in 2022 where the Monegasque had won followed by Sainz. The Italian team is currently in second place in the constructors’ championship behind Red Bull. As for the drivers, Leclerc remains in the top 3 with 28 points and Sainz is currently in 6th place with 15 points. So, see you in two weeks for the Japanese Grand Prix, once again early in the morning.
