Barely arrived in F2, Kimi Antonelli will test an F1 with Mercedes as early as this month
The young protege from Mercedes will have the opportunity to take his first steps in an F1 car on April 16th at the Red Bull Ring in the 2021 W12.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli will make his debut at the wheel of a Mercedes F1, on the track of the Austrian Grand Prix. Currently ninth in the Formula 2 championship, Antonelli has a unique opportunity to prove himself, given that there is a second available seat in the English team. All this at only 17 years old.
All this is part of the young Italian driver’s testing program. Driving at the Red Bull Ring is the first step in an intensive preparation program. Mercedes has the right to field a 2022 car, the first season under the current technical regulations. In total, two days of testing for the junior driver, before heading to Barcelona the following week for F2 tests.
Even though Antonelli has committed to the Formula 2 season, the Italian is enrolled in an F1 program, consisting of several private test days on various circuits in Europe. The German team has confirmed their intention to prepare the driver as best as possible for his debut in Formula 1.
Antonelli is currently having a good start to the year in F2, despite the technical problems encountered by Prema, which is struggling with the new generation of single-seaters.
The next round of the Formula 2 Championship will take place in Imola on May 19th.
