He had taken retirement in 2022, after 16 seasons in Formula 1. The four-time world champion (2010;2011:2012;2013), admitted to considering a return to the top competition, during an interview with Sky Sports News.

When the British media asked him if he was looking for a seat in 2025, he replied: « Well, potentially, I am because I don’t have a steering wheel but the question is, am I looking for one? I think it depends on what is offered to me.

I retired from Formula 1 so as not to come back, but I also said that you never know. So I think that still applies.

The German admits that even if he does not regret stopping, certain things are missing. Obviously, there are things I miss, mainly the competition. And there are things I don’t miss. Life is very different if you’re not involved, and I still appreciate that.

He confirmed to Sky that there had been discussions with Toto Wolff, the boss at Mercedes. « I had conversations with him (Wolff), not really about a seat. We briefly talked about the whole situation. »

But I also spoke to other people because I stay in touch from time to time. I have projects and ideas with F1. We will see if they materialize or not, he insists.

Since the beginning of the season, it has been known that Mercedes has a vacant seat following Lewis Hamilton’s departure to Ferrari. Red Bull, for its part, has not renewed Perez’s contract yet, which could leave an opportunity for the team with which Vettel won his four driver titles.

He gives his opinion on the British team. In terms of performance, Mercedes has an excellent track record, with a bit of difficulty in recent years, but even with its challenges, you are still second and third in the constructor’s championship. It’s not like you’re racing in a no man’s land.

Vettel tempted by the opportunity of Le Mans

Sebastian Vettel recently tested the Porsche Hypercar, which will participate in the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. The German driver stated that it is possible that he will make his debut in the famous race.

« Perhaps, I don’t know yet. I have been trying. I was curious, so I wanted to see what it felt like. It is obviously a different discipline. It’s always racing, but it’s a different car, a different discipline.

Nothing is certain yet since the former driver from Aston Martin doesn’t rule anything out. « There are a lot of things that excite me, many different things, not necessarily just by looking at something behind the wheel but also outside the car. »
