Ayrton Senna’s red Honda NSX goes on sale for £500,000
One of three-time Formula 1 World Champion Ayrton Senna's personal Honda NSXs is currently being offered for sale by British website Auto Trader for £500,000 (equivalent to €580,000).
Considered one of the greatest drivers of all time, Ayrton Senna dominated the Formula 1 scene in the late 80s and early 90s. The Brazilian driver notably won 41 races and 3 world titles with McLaren in 1988, 1990, and 1991. Although he tragically lost his life at Imola during the San Marino Grand Prix on May 1, 1994, his legacy continues to live on. The sale of one of his personal Honda NSX cars can only arouse the interest of fans, car enthusiasts, and sports car lovers.
After more than 30 years, still in working order
The vehicle, first registered in 1991, now shows 39,100 miles on the clock (almost 63,000 km). It is equipped with a three-liter six-cylinder engine developing 271 hp, reaching a top speed of around 265 km/h, and going from 0 to 100 km/h in 6 seconds. The red NSX is offered for sale at a price of £500,000 by the British owner Robert McFagan. All certificates of authenticity are included in the sale, including photos showing the Brazilian driver using his Honda.
A legendary vehicle
The Brazilian driver owned three Honda NSX cars: two in black (one kept in Brazil and the other bought for him by his manager Antonio Braga), and one in red.
The legendary Senna’s car was made famous by several photo sessions in Portugal. It is also visible in the film “Racing is in my Blood”, released in 1992. This famous red Honda was seen in Imola in 2019 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Brazilian’s death. During this event, the NSX was driven by the founder of the Minardi F1 team and boss of the circuit, Giancarlo Minardi, in front of the Brazilian driver’s fans.
“I bought the car in 2013 during a trip to the Algarve, Portugal, and it has been proudly sitting on my estate in East Sussex,” explains Robert McFagan, the current owner of Ayrton Senna’s NSX. “Being a huge fan of Senna myself, I was thrilled to be able to acquire his NSX, designed to perfection and offering an amazing driving experience. It has been a real pleasure to own one of the most famous cars belonging to a true sports legend, and the joy of driving Senna’s car has never faded.”
For those who wish to see Ayrton Senna’s Honda with their own eyes, it should be exhibited at the Senna exhibition at Silverstone in August. However, the seller stated that he would prefer the car to be picked up after the exhibition closes.
