Christian Horner believes Verstappen’s domination won’t last forever

For the past two years, there seems to be no stopping Max Verstappen's string of victories. However, for Red Bull managing director Christian Horner, this domination is bound to come to an end sooner or later.

In recent seasons, we can say that Max Verstappen is a bit alone in the world, except for a few battles, he clearly dominates the competition. Only Carlos Sainz has managed to win a race, and this, since last year’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Verstappen is clearly in the form of his career, in harmony with his car, he is accumulating victories and breaking records. Nothing seems to stop him. And Red Bull boss, Christian Horner, won’t say otherwise. He is a metronome. The speed he showed last year, he just keeps the rhythm. I think he has won 50% of all races since the last Chinese Grand Prix [in 2019]. He has won 21 of the last 23 races. He is in fantastic shape. He is in harmony with the car, with the team, and he enjoys racing.

But even if things seem perfect for now, Christian Horner explains that the history of F1 has already shown that periods of domination can quickly come to an end. That’s why his team doesn’t take anything for granted. “You have to appreciate success,” he said. “Max has a special talent. It’s a golden period for him and, as we’ve seen with every driver, it doesn’t last forever. I think we have to enjoy the moment. There’s no guarantee that we’ll be able to give him a car like this every year for the next five years. So, it’s about doing what you can, while you can.”

The Dutchman excelled at the Japanese and Chinese Grand Prix, once again showing his dominance. But Horner believes that the nature of the long corners at Suzuka and Shanghai probably favored the RB20. “I think it’s probably specific to the track because we might go to the next race and it tightens up again,” he said.

« This will likely do it. We haven’t run in really high temperatures yet. So, there are still a lot of variables. But on the different circuits we’ve had, the RB20 is performing well, the drivers, particularly Max, are doing a remarkable job. »
