The FIA, International Automobile Federation, regularly meets with the teams and Formula 1. Chaired by Nikolas Tombazis, Director of Single-Seaters at the FIA, and Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, the commission has not announced any decisions impacting the championship for the time being.

Postponement of the modification of the points system in F1

F1 and the FIA wish to work on a new points system. This system will not be implemented until 2024 and no decision has been made at this time. Decisions will be postponed to the next council meeting. This includes improving the ability of backmarker teams to score points by increasing the number of positions earning points from 10 to 12. Therefore, the last point would be awarded to the 12th place finisher in the race.

The members of the commission discussed a proposal to amend the points distribution of the Championship, as described in Articles 6.4 and 6.5 of the Sporting Regulations. It was agreed that a more in-depth analysis of the proposed changes was necessary in order to present a proposal at the F1 Commission meeting in July, explains the statement.

The dates of the 2025 preseason trials decided

The commission has made the decision on the location for the 2025 winter private testing sessions. With the return of the Australian Grand Prix as the season opener next year in F1, the question arose of where the pre-season testing will take place. Indeed, for several seasons, they have been held in Bahrain, as the first Grand Prix of the season also took place on the island. In 2025, Barcelona could once again be considered to host the winter tests, as well as other circuits along the “route” between Europe and Australia.

« It was agreed that a proposal regarding the dates/venues of the 2025 pre-season tests would be presented by the Formula 1 Management for review by the F1 Commission. » explains the statement.

The commission has signed other minor decisions on the sporting and financial regulations that will be unveiled during the next updates of these regulations, as well as the addition of a new rear-facing camera starting from the Spanish Grand Prix. This concludes the statement.
