Official: Red Bull confirms Adrian Newey’s departure

Adrian Newey, Red Bull's emblematic team engineer, is leaving the team. It's the end of a great story for the man who arrived in 2006 and played a key role in the design of the cars that propelled Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen to a total of seven Drivers' World Championship titles and six Constructors' World Championship titles for Red Bull.

The Adrian Newey era at Red Bull is over. He arrived in 2006 from McLaren, the designer revolutionized the Red Bull car from the start and played a key role in the seven drivers’ world titles and six constructors’ titles won to date by the team.

Last Thursday, we had learned that the separation was imminent. Adrian Newey had informed some members of the team of his intention to leave. Since then, he has submitted his resignation in writing, and has even explained it.

What future for Newey?

Several possibilities are available to him. The possibility of leaving Formula 1 at the age of 65 cannot be ruled out, even if no retirement rumors have been reported. Teams like Aston Martin, Ferrari, or even Mercedes have shown very interested in the British driver. It will depend on the agreement reached with Red Bull regarding the notice period. If this notice is not reduced, it could prevent the engineer from working for the competition before January 2027.

The other questions will turn towards the Max Verstappen clan, and how the triple world champion will react to this departure, as his contract ties him to Red Bull until 2028 but includes clauses that could come into play in a context of internal political warfare exacerbated by the Horner affair since February. It is known that the Dutch driver is very close to the technician and could consider leaving Red Bull.
