Alonso: “These Sprint races are useless”
Fernando Alonso was very upset at the end of the Sprint Race, where he lost everything in the first corner.

The first corner was very eventful, with a series of collisions between Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll, and Lando Norris. The last two mentioned were forced to retire, while the Spanish driver found himself relegated to the back of the pack.
As he had received a severe penalty during the Sprint Race in China, the Spaniard did not mince his words at the end of an incident where the FIA stewards’ investigation was very brief and resulted in no sanctions: « These Sprint Races don’t mean much for 99% of the grid, there aren’t many points to score. You only risk damaging the car or getting penalties. Once again, we confirmed it today. There wasn’t much action on the track, and we damaged the car. » In his characteristic style, he even went further: « I hope that next time, we won’t even start to save the car a bit. »
He then came back to the clash with his favorite rival, Lewis Hamilton: « Hamilton was on the inside, probably having lost control of his car. As he is not Spanish, he probably won’t receive any penalties. » This will further improve his image with the FIA commissioners… Yet, the action replay showed that Lance Stroll had moved onto his teammate and their wheels were already interlocked before the contact with Lewis Hamilton.
