Ferrari 312 T4 sold for over 7 million euros at auction
The auction of driver Jody Scheckter's collection and other Formula 1-related lots took place this weekend in Monaco at the same time as the historic Grand Prix. Among the 7 vintage Formula 1s on sale, the Ferrari 312 T4 fetched over 7 million euros, making it the star of the sale.
Motors Inside told you about this sale a few weeks ago that was going to bring together many single-seaters owned by Jody Scheckter, former F1 driver in the 70s and 80s. The South African driver was offering for sale in particular seven Formula 1 cars, including the Tyrrell P34 known for its 6 wheels or the Ferrari 312 adorned with the 1979 drivers’ title with Scheckter at the wheel.
Organized by RM Sotheby’s in the principality of Monaco, during the weekend of the Historic F1 Grand Prix, this sale attracted attention with no less than 40 million euros in total sales out of the 261 lots offered, averaging more than €150,000 per lot.
A headliner sold for 7 million euros
The star of this sale was the Ferrari 312 T4 driven in 1979 by Jody Scheckter and winning the drivers’ title that season. Bidders fought over this fully mechanized single-seater with a final bid of 7,655,000 euros.
The second car that was expected at this sale was still a Ferrari, a 1954 F1, the 625. This collectible car, a single-seater with a retro look, without a wing, sold for just over 2.7 million euros.
The Tyrrell P34, known worldwide for its specific look with its 4 front steering wheels, was sold for a little over 1 million euros. This Tyrrell, developed for the 1977 season, allowed to optimize grip in corners but did not achieve the expected success on the track. Another Tyrrell was for sale. The 1975 007 model. Coming third at the 1975 British Grand Prix, this F1 car was sold for 700,000€.
The 5th Formula 1 car offered at this auction, a 1973 McLaren M23, also sold for just over 1 million euros. Another McLaren F1 was up for sale, the 1971 M19A, sold at the hammer for over 800,000 euros.
The Prost AP02 has been sold for ”only” 556,000 €. Restored recently in the LRS Formula workshops, this single-seater equipped with a Peugeot V10 engine and driven by Trulli and Panis competed in the 1999 F1 championship.
It should be noted that among the lots offered for sale, many sports cars were presented and the Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider was sold for the highest price with a hammer price of 3,436,250 euros.
