McLaren unveils an Ayrton Senna tribute livery in Monaco

A few days after the tribute paid to Ayrton Senna at Imola, the McLaren team decided to reveal a livery in honor of the Brazilian driver at Monaco, the track where he reigned supreme.

The McLaren team worked with their sponsor partner OKX for a complete transformation of the livery of the MCL38, replacing its papaya orange with the yellow, green, and blue colors of the iconic helmet of the late Brazilian driver.

The single-seater also features iconic quotes from Senna inside the cockpit, as well as inscriptions bearing the name of the triple world champion on the front and rear wings.

Although last weekend’s F1 race in Imola paid tribute to the 30th anniversary of Senna’s death, McLaren wanted to use this special livery in Monaco so that it could be part of a celebration. Senna won six races in Monaco, including five consecutive victories for McLaren between 1989 and 1993.

Speaking about the colors of Senna, the CEO of McLaren, Zak Brown, declared that:
“The team is proud to recognize and celebrate Ayrton Senna’s extraordinary life and racing legacy through this McLaren livery. Senna remains venerated and respected as the most iconic figure in Formula 1 and the most successful driver of McLaren. His impact on McLaren is immense, not only through his racing achievements but also through his presence within the team, and now through his legacy, so it’s an honor to race for him on his most successful circuit in his green, yellow, and blue colors.”

The idea of the Senna livery was worked on for 12 months and received the full blessing of the Senna family, who were involved at every stage of the process. Bianca Senna, who works for Senna Global, explained: “It’s an honor to recognize Ayrton through these liveries in collaboration with McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate his life and legacy through his iconic colors on the two cars. McLaren meant a lot to him and together, they achieved a lot of success, much of which is still remembered today. It will be special to see him race through the streets of Monaco, a circuit that brought him so much joy and many triumphs.”

Ayrton Senna remains the most successful driver for McLaren, having won 35 of his 41 Grand Prix victories for the team. He secured three drivers’ championship titles and contributed to four constructors’ championship titles during his time with the team.

In addition to transforming the livery of the F1, McLaren has unveiled a unique special version of the McLaren Senna road car, named Senna Sempre. It features colors similar to the Monaco F1 car, as well as a dotted portrait of Senna.
