Kevin Magnussen: « I don’t see how the accident can be my fault »
Kevin Magnussen was forced to retire early in the race after a violent collision with Sergio Perez. He holds Perez responsible for the accident.

Kevin Magnussen saw his Monaco Grand Prix turn very short. While trying to overtake Sergio Perez in the early laps, the two cars made contact, which propelled the Mexican into the barriers before ricocheting against the two Haas cars. All three drivers had to retire, while the Red Bull is completely destroyed.
It is difficult to judge guilt in this accident, it is more of a racing incident. Even though one could say that Magnussen was a bit optimistic in his overtaking maneuver.
« I was getting closer to Perez. Just as my wheel was in front of his, we got too close to the wall,” he explained to ViaPlay after abandoning the race. « From my point of view, he simply didn’t leave me any space next to the wall. Therefore, inevitably, we made contact and had an accident. But I guess he didn’t see me. However, the rules state that you must leave space. And he did not. »
No suspension for Magnussen
When asked what he could have done differently, he replied that he would have liked to brake. But if you brake, there are also people behind you. You have to trust the person you’re racing against, assuming that they won’t push you against the wall, which I did. I trusted that he wouldn’t just put me in the wall. So, I guess I shouldn’t have done that.
The Haas driver, who was already unhappy on Saturday with a disqualification, once again defended himself: “I was squeezed against the wall. There was no room for two cars. There was plenty of space. He just needed to move a little to the left, where there was no one on the inside. So I don’t see why he had to simply put me in the wall.”
In his misfortune, the Danish driver may turn out to be lucky: the stewards have decided not to investigate this incident. This means that he will not receive a penalty, even though he already has 10 points on his racing license. If he reaches 12 points, he will be suspended for one race.
