F1TV will significantly reduce its offering in France

Under the guise of anti-tobacco legislation, F1TV informed its French subscribers that their offer would be significantly reduced as of next month.

In recent years, competition between Canal+ and F1TV has intensified significantly as Liberty Media’s direct offering has expanded. This has greatly displeased the encrypted channel, which pays several million euros per season for the broadcasting rights of the sport, but whose prices are much higher than those of the subscription only offered by F1.

A first warning shot was fired last December when it was announced that the live offering, F1 TV Pro, was being discontinued with immediate effect. Only current subscribers were able to retain this offer, which allows viewing of all practice sessions, qualifications, and live races. A subscriber then had the choice of keeping and renewing this offer upon expiry or settling for delayed broadcasting.

A new reduction in the services offered will take place as of July 11 since the following programs will no longer be available on F1 TV Pro:

  • Replays, summaries, and pre and post-race shows for the entire 2024 season.
  • The archives of races from previous seasons.
  • The full range of programs and documentaries such as Tech Talks, Jolyon Palmer’s Analysis, and F1 Icons.

In short, from now on, it will only be possible to watch live sessions for F1, F2, F3, and F1 Academy. To sweeten the pill of this reduction in service, to which the removal of access to archived races must be added, Liberty Media will decrease the subscription from €64.99 to €49.99, starting from the next renewal.
