Interviewed by journalists in Spain about the improvements observed at Aston Martin after a good result in Canada, Alonso responded cautiously. “I would like to be able to say yes (to the positive evolution, Editor’s note), but I think that Canada is a very unique circuit with only long straights and intense braking, as well as very short turns. So yes, Canada was good for us, but I think we need to wait for two or three different circuits to really understand our improvements. So yeah, let’s wait and see. I hope so.”

According to some rumors, Red Bull’s future ex-engineer Adrian Newey would have visited the Aston Martin factory and discussed with the team. When asked about this, Fernando Alonso replied that he had read the rumors, but they come from the same source and the same websites that, a week ago, said he was at Ferrari and that the announcement would be made 12 hours before the race in Canada. So yes, rumors are rumors, he summarized.

To the question of what he would say to Newey to convince him to join Aston Martin, Alonso kept a mysterious look, concluding: « It remains between him and me ».

Fernando Alonso on the driving difficulties of the AMR24

Interviewed later about Mike Krack’s statements regarding the difficulty of driving the AMR24, Alonso, always precise in his explanations, preferred to remain evasive and maintain a certain discretion: « We keep that to ourselves. But yes, these cars, you know, when we add more and more aerodynamic downforce, (b) they become a bit more critical in certain situations. You have to get used to it or simply, you know, mitigate that a bit with changes in settings or other things, a better understanding of the improvements you may be bringing to a race and which require a little more time to really adapt this new aerodynamic performance to a different track or different settings. »

However, he remains quite optimistic for the upcoming races: « As I said before Canada, for the past three weeks, or let’s say after Imola, there is a very clear picture, in black and white. Finally, I think we have a good plan for the future », he commented on the things to improve at Aston Martin.
