Lewis Hamilton, who was about to leave the garage to join the track during the third qualifying session for the Grand Prix, had taken with him equipment that posed a health risk to the team. An involuntary incident that will result in a financial penalty for the Mercedes team.
A dangerous outing
The penalty imposed on the team is referred to as dangerous release and does not include any grid penalty or points penalty on the license. This follows Lewis Hamilton’s departure from the Mercedes garage where he took with him a team jack during qualifying. The equipment, which had detached itself, just in front of the garage, did not cause any accidents. The car was not damaged.
The race commissioners took into account the team’s reactivity during the events. Nevertheless, Mercedes was sentenced to pay nearly 5000 € in compensation and for the potential danger it may have caused.
The driver, Mercedes will therefore keep his fifth place for the start of the race this Sunday.
