Gasly penalized on the grid at Silverstone
The announcement was made by Alpine in the morning. The French team has just announced several changes in the engine of the French car. Therefore, the Normand will be penalized on the starting grid this weekend.

The weekend is shaping up to be difficult for Pierre Gasly. Already deprived of the first free practice session in favor of Australian Jack Doohan, the Frenchman will also have to change his engine, resulting in penalties on the grid for Sunday.
The main person concerned also spoke about this at the beginning of the week: it is a logical solution to ensure that Jack (Doohan) makes one of his mandatory appearances as a young driver. We are changing power unit components on my car, which will result in a penalty for the Grand Prix. I hope we can still deliver a good performance despite the penalty.
Silverstone: cradle of Formula
Gasly, author last weekend of his 400th point in F1 with a hard-won 10th place in a difficult weekend according to his own words, remains nonetheless optimistic for this weekend and hopes to achieve a good result on a legendary track that he particularly likes.
From a pilot’s point of view, Silverstone is one of the best circuits on the calendar in terms of pure sensations. It is extremely fast, the car is pushed to its limits in some corners, and it is so much fun behind the wheel. The races there are generally exciting as there are several places where overtaking is possible. Indeed, since 2021, 3 drivers from 3 different teams have triumphed there, offering the audience a magnificent spectacle with legendary corners and impressive battles.
A favorable period nonetheless for Pierre Gasly
In addition to a weekend that promises to be complicated, the Norman driver is nevertheless experiencing happy days. The Frenchman has just finished in the points for the fourth consecutive time in Spielberg and has just renewed his contract with the French team for several years. An essential agreement to consider the future more serene for the French driver who really feels at home in this great team.
« I have been there officially for over eighteen months and the goal has always been to build in the long term with the team. I am satisfied with the changes made, the hard work, and the direction taken by the team. » The Frenchman therefore plans to continue his career with the French team beyond this year.
This contract extension is a way for Alpine to offer stability to the team in a period of great upheaval for it, and to best prepare for future deadlines, especially the new regulations in 2026. For his part, Gasly believes that all options should be examined and then form his own opinion on what is best for performance.
In the meantime, Alpine must try to prepare for the Silverstone race as best as possible in order to bring back points for the team, as was the case in the last four Grand Prix races.
