Logan Sargeant could bounce back in Indycar with Prema

The American driver, currently at Williams, is currently experiencing a difficult season within his team. A situation that could lead him to look for a change and to move towards other categories of single-seaters, notably the Indycar.

Rene Rosin, boss of the Prema team in Formula 2, recently confirmed that he has initiated discussions with the American driver to offer him a spot in his new Indycar team for the 2025 season.

« We have known him for a long time. We discuss, but on the pilots’ side, we are not really interested in discussing now because I focused on building the team in the style we all want, and the drivers will come later. » This would be a homecoming for Logan Sargeant, who was already able to work with the Italian junior team in Formula 3 in 2020, alongside Oscar Piastri and Frederick Vesti.

Rene Rosin, who is looking for a competitive team from the start including a rookie and an experienced driver, could therefore choose to fall back on the 23-year-old American who is out of contract this year and is looking for an exit door in the face of numerous rumors of drivers who would be able to join the team created by Frank Williams.

He has also recently stated « that he is exploring all options, both inside and outside F1. I’m focusing on my work, making the most of what I have at hand. » An uncertain situation for the young American who struggles to establish himself in the team and suffers from comparisons with his Thai teammate, as he has only scored points once since his debut in Formula 1 with a 10th place finish last year at the United States Grand Prix.

Many drivers for only 2 spots.

Unfortunately for Logan Sargeant, seats are limited and, given his recent results, Rene Rosin could be inclined to turn to other drivers. Asked about other potential options he may have available, the director of the Italian team mentioned an interest in Callum Ilott, another former driver from Prema and with two years of experience in Indycar with Juncos Hollinger Racing.

« To be honest, this is one of the drivers that I would say… I’m not saying he’s on our list, but he’s certainly an interesting person. Looking at his experience and the previous years when he raced with us and against us. » Besides that, Rene Rosin may decide to recruit Alexander Rossi, former Formula 1 driver and winner of the 2016 Indianapolis 500; he who has just announced his departure from Arrow McLaren at the end of this season.

Nevertheless, these are only assumptions and Rene Rosin, who will work with Piers Phillips, the future CEO of the team, is first and foremost looking to secure the team to have the best possible position.

We will receive the first two cars within about a week. We will then start to examine the drivers in more detail. There are a lot of contacts, but for now, they are just contacts, nothing more.

Having recently stated that the team « was going to acquire its two Indycar drivers in the coming weeks », Rene Rosin is putting pressure on Logan Sargeant, who, for his part, has no idea « when his future will be sealed ». The coming weeks are thus likely to be crucial for the American driver.
