A race that didn’t seem to be successful for Max Verstappen this Sunday at the British Grand Prix, but a great finish for the triple world champion. Starting fourth on the grid behind George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris, the Dutchman showcased his driving talent and made some impressive overtakes, especially towards the end by passing Lando Norris.

After difficult weather conditions related to the English weather, the good weather returned a few laps before the end. Max Verstappen took advantage of this to change his tires at the right moment. Finishing the race with hard tires, unlike the two leading drivers who put on soft tires, the Dutchman secured the overtaking on the McLaren driver but failed to pass Lewis Hamilton and therefore finished second in this Grand Prix. Making the right decisions at the right time has been successful for the driver currently leading the world championship this season.

« It didn’t look very good, I thought I was going to finish fifth or sixth. Then we made some good decisions. We switched from slicks to intermediates and from intermediates to slicks at the right time. In the end, opting for hard tires really helped me finish second. It could have been worse but we managed the race well and I’m happy to be on the podium. When it started raining for the first time, I was starting to lose ground and didn’t have enough grip. I told my team that the guys in front were pulling away. We had to stay on track, it was tricky but at one point it really poured down, we had to switch to intermediates. I tried to keep them as best as I could and suddenly the sun came out, the track dried very quickly. I still felt good with the intermediates but there was a big enough gap to decide to switch to slicks and that’s what we did, explained the triple world champion after crossing the checkered flag.

A strategy that will have paid off, a new podium and twenty additional points for the championship leader who shows race after race his desire to go and win a fourth world championship title this season.
