A very emotional victory for Lewis Hamilton who regains his winning place at Silverstone

A simply perfect weekend for Lewis Hamilton who won the British Grand Prix. A particularly emotional victory for the driver who had not stood on the top step of the podium since 2021.

It took going back to December 5, 2021 in Jeddah to see Lewis Hamilton back on the top step of the podium. The Mercedes driver put an end to 945 days without a win this Sunday by claiming first place on the Silverstone circuit. A remarkable victory as the driver was at home, in front of his fans, his team, his father and mother, all very proud to be able to hug the winner. The future driver of Scuderia Ferrari even treated himself to a little extra by setting a new record, that of the number of wins on a single circuit. Lewis Hamilton thus surpasses Michael Schumacher who held eight victories on the Magny-Cours circuit, in France.

To secure his 104th victory this Sunday, the Mercedes driver took advantage of his teammate George Russell’s retirement and had to overcome many pitfalls, not to mention the difficult weather conditions. The seven-time world champion was rather observant at the beginning of the race before being able to get the better of Lando Norris, who made a mistake during his final pit stop. The battle was therefore between the McLaren driver and Max Verstappen while Lewis Hamilton was flying towards victory. Still, attention had to be paid to the Red Bull driver who could quickly come back. But after 52 laps, Lewis Hamilton was able to exult and let the emotion take over.

« I’m still crying. Since 2021, every day I get up to train, to fight, to program my mind to reach my goals. It was my last Grand Prix here at Silverstone with my team. I love them so much, the whole team, everything we’ve put on the table together, it rewards the whole team and of course all my fans, I saw you lap after lap, there is no better feeling than finishing first here. It was tough for everyone but the important thing is how you continue to fight. There were days where I didn’t feel good enough since the end of 2021 but I had people supporting me, especially Toto.

And of course my supporters all around the world. A huge thank you to the team, I love you and God bless you”, confessed Lewis Hamilton, still very moved by his great victory.

Like a farewell message, but with a lot of emotions for the one who will drive in red with Ferrari from next season.
