Teams in Indycar are interested in Valterri Bottas
After Logan Sargeant, many Indycar teams would be interested in another Formula 1 driver: the Finnish Valterri Bottas. The Sauber driver could therefore leave Formula 1 at the end of this season.

Logan Sargeant may not be the only driver on the grid to find himself in the United States. While his days in F1 seem numbered, his team boss, James Vowles, does not rule out quickly replacing the American driver. There, Sargeant could reunite with a familiar face in the form of Valtteri Bottas.
Recent rumors spread by AutoHebdo suggest that the former Mercedes driver, winner of 10 Grand Prix, could bounce back in IndyCar where several teams have expressed interest in him. A destination that could suit the Finnish driver, who had already shown interest in this discipline a few years ago: “Maybe I will participate in races in the United States. IndyCar is quite interesting. The circuits are beautiful and the races seem truly authentic. This sport is gaining popularity, at least in Europe, so let’s see how it goes,” he notably revealed in 2022.
Lacking results this year (he is currently last in the championship and has not scored any points yet) and at the end of his contract at the end of the season, the Finn could therefore turn to IndyCar, even if Formula 1 remains a priority for him, as he has several options for next year.
Among them, Sauber, which will become Audi in 2025, would like to renew his contract and make him the teammate of Nico Hülkenberg, freshly recruited into the team. This strategy aims to have two experienced drivers capable of advancing the team and guiding it in the right direction.
Williams would also be an option, especially since the Finnish driver knows this team very well, having driven there between 2013 and 2016. Recently questioned about this, James Vowles responded with a « yes » regarding Bottas, if the Carlos Sainz track does not materialize. The boss of the Grove team spoke very highly of the former Mercedes driver.
« He is very fast. You don’t beat Lewis in qualifying without being fast. We are looking for an experienced man, capable of making the team progress. He is unquestionably to be taken into consideration. He hasn’t lost his pace. He still performs at the same level as before. » Remarks that must delight the Finnish driver, currently without a seat for 2025, but not really stressed by this situation, judging that he still has plenty of time to find a solution.
« I feel like things are starting to progress and come together in a positive way, hopefully. But, I still have nothing to announce here and nothing has been signed, but it’s progressing. I think I am in a good position. Some people in the paddock know what I can bring to a team. But it takes time to finalize things to be 100% confident. It’s not frustrating. It’s actually exciting. I mean, it’s part of the sport and we are only in July. I have been in this situation before where I had to wait until September or October. »
