Esteban Ocon: « There are other problems with my car that I’ve encountered at various events »
Alpine was once again disappointing in Hungary, where persistent technical problems and poor strategic choices were the order of the day. While Pierre Gasly was forced to retire, Esteban Ocon finished 18th in Budapest.
This week again, Alpine showed its bad side. While Esteban Ocon failed to make it to Q2 on Saturday, the French driver finally finished the Hungarian Grand Prix in 18th place. Disappointing results for a driver who has only been able to score three points since the start of the season.
On a difficult track and with an underperforming car, Esteban Ocon failed to correct the missed qualifications of the day before. He struggled greatly with his tires, having to pit multiple times, which led to a loss of precious time. In the end, although he managed to finish the Grand Prix, it is with a bitter taste that his race ends.
The Alpine single-seater has been experiencing technical issues for several races now. With promising performances in the middle of the season, the modifications made to the car are a real disappointment for both drivers, as Pierre Gasly is already on his third retirement. Esteban Ocon, who will leave the team at the end of the season, did not hesitate to express his frustration regarding the car’s performance.
There is nothing to gain from this weekend. I think honestly, apart from the start, there was nothing good. No rhythm, no stability on the car, a lot of degradation, we had to stop in the end because we didn’t have any more tires,” he said on Canal+ microphone. « We should have simply preserved the car at the end of the race, there was nothing to play for us. We were not fast, we took a non-ideal strategy. Nothing was good to keep, so we need a good readjustment before Spa.”
