A few days ago, Marcus Ericsson, former Formula 1 driver now in IndyCar, shared in a podcast on ViaPlay that tensions had arisen between Logan Sargeant and his team principal at Williams.

Logan Sargeant strongly denied Marcus Ericsson’s claims about problems in his relationship with James Vowles.

Totally false rumors

According to Ericsson’s acquaintances, who know Logan Sargeant well, it appeared that the two men were hardly speaking anymore. This information was shared by Ericsson himself on the ViaPlay F1 Podcast. Ericsson, a former driver on the grid, competes in the American race championship, IndyCar, which explains his closeness to acquaintances of the only American driver in Formula 1. He had stated that Logan Sargeant and James Vowles were experiencing difficulties in their relationship, as Logan Sargeant no longer felt comfortable in the team. However, the recent information was described as completely false by the main person concerned.

Interviewed by the media on the subject, Sargeant firmly rejected these rumors. “Marcus Ericsson has the reputation of talking about others without even having a conversation with me. So yes, it means nothing. It’s not true. I just had a conversation with James twenty minutes ago,” he confirmed.

As the question about the team’s intentions and Logan Sargeant’s well-being is at the heart of concerns, the American driver seems to be completely at ease in the team. “I just had a conversation here with James twenty minutes ago. And most importantly, James and I, we come here and we want to do what’s best for the team, we both work in the same direction for what’s best for the team, and ultimately, what’s best for the team is also best for me. So, it’s completely false. I have never spoken to [Ericsson] in my life, so I have no intention of doing so either.

A collaboration that is not finished yet

At the moment, Logan Sargeant’s season within the Williams team is not exemplary. This year, the American has not yet scored any points while the calendar is already half full. This situation has piqued the curiosity of the entire paddock about the driver’s future as team director James Vowles had mentioned a replacement. The Prema team, which participates in IndyCar, had also mentioned being in contact with Sargeant for a recruitment next year. A proposal that was not a priority, but still worth considering.

Sargeant still mentioned that he would discuss his future in detail in a private conversation with James Vowles, although they have only seen each other in public so far. « It was a group conversation a while ago, but I will talk to him separately. I haven’t had the chance yet. The driver confided, “It’s been like this for a long time, so that’s how it is. As I always say, the most important thing is that we all work towards the same goal. That will never change. And we all want what’s best for the whole team. The season hasn’t been easy with everything that’s happened, but we continue to work as usual and try to perform at our best,” Sargeant shared in his interview.

On his part, Marcus Ericsson insisted on retracting his comments after being informed of the situation. He expressed himself in RACER. “I did not intend to upset anyone, I simply said what I had heard,” he admits.

Despite the rumors, everything seems to be going well between James Vowles and Logan Sargeant. We just have to wait and see what will happen during the summer break.
