Laurent Mekies talks about the speculation surrounding Ricciardo’s future: “We’ll think about it”
VisaCashAppRB team leader Laurent Mekies said there was no rush to choose next year's drivers, but that they would think about it over the summer break.

The weeks go by and speculations are rife about Daniel Ricciardo’s future in F1. The Australian has not lived up to expectations this year, replacing Nyck de Vries at the last minute last year, who was also disappointing. Beaten on numerous occasions by his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, except for the Grand Prix of Austria, Spain, Canada, and Bahrain, Ricciardo currently has half the points of the Japanese driver and is behind him in the drivers’ standings. Rumors are therefore multiplying about his future at VisaCashAppRB, sadly known for replacing its drivers during the season.
If the team manager Laurent Mekies did not give any indication about the future of the Australian, he admitted that the team plans to reflect on it very soon.
« Yes, there has been a lot of speculation, but you know what, what we continue to say is that we spent most of the first part of the season improving the car, just to give a better car to Daniel and Yuki, and we have always said, from the team’s point of view, that there is no rush, even though there is a lot of excitement about it, to choose drivers for next year », explained Laurent Mekies in a press conference.
« Now we are halfway through the season, yes, it is very public that we will sit down during the summer break to discuss the future of the drivers, he added, however. « This does not necessarily mean that there will be a change at Zandvoort, but it is just that halfway through the season we sit down and examine the best way to move forward », concluded the team principal. So, stay tuned…
