Alpine in talks with several engine manufacturers for 2026, “nothing is done” says Bruno Famin
Bruno Famin highlighted Alpine's new project, which marks a significant step forward for the team as it seeks to strengthen its position not only in Formula 1, but also as a world-renowned sporting brand.

While Bruno Famin confirmed in a press conference on Friday that he would be leaving his role as team director at Alpine at the end of August, the current team leader mentioned the transformation that the brand will initiate from 2026, when it will switch from Renault engines for its single-seaters. An ambitious project aimed at transforming the brand beyond just developing its power unit for Formula 1.
« The Alpine brand is expanding with a huge development project, explained Bruno Famin. « We will be selling new models in the coming years with cutting-edge technology, very ambitious to build this new sports brand, make it known outside of France and worldwide. »
One of the key components of this project is to reallocate resources from the development of the Formula 1 power unit, currently located in Viry-Chatillon, towards the development of new technologies for the brand. « One of the consequences of this project, if accepted, would be that the Alpine F1 team purchases the power unit instead of developing its own power unit », confirmed Famin, confirming the information from this week.
The future of Bruno Famin in Viry as of September
When asked about the deadlines for this project and which manufacturers Alpine was in discussions with, he replied: “The project that was presented to the Viry staff representatives and various governance bodies discusses work on the power unit for 2026. We are talking to various manufacturers, but we cannot make any decisions before completing this very strict social process in France.”
Famin also addressed speculations about his future as the director of the Alpine team. Since last year, I have doubled my activities with the role of VP of motor racing and that of general manager of the BWT Alpine F1 team. Given the stakes of the new project in Viry, I think it will be much more useful for the company if I devote my time to the activities in Viry and to the transformation project.
As we know, he then announced that he would resign from his role as team principal at the end of August to focus entirely on Viry’s activities starting September 1st. « The guys in Viry are doing an incredible job. We all know that since 2014, we haven’t had the best engine at Viry, but it’s one of the engines that has improved the most since 2014 »,” he added.
In conclusion, Bruno Famin expressed his optimism about the future: « We have set a very high goal, and I am convinced that we can achieve this goal. The figures we have on the test bench are very good, everyone is very involved, very professional, very competent. All these people deserve us to dedicate the necessary time to be with them in this huge project.”
