Pirelli to bring the softest tires for Italy, Azerbaijan and Singapore
Pirelli has unveiled the tires for the September Grand Prix in Monza, Singapore and Azerbaijan, opting for the softer C3, C4 and C5 compounds. Although suitable for urban circuits, the resurfacing work at Monza allows the use of a softer range of tires.
Today, the manufacturer Pirelli, responsible for producing tires for Formula 1, has shared the compounds that will be used during the three Grand Prix in September. These upcoming Formula 1 races will take place in Monza, Singapore, and Azerbaijan.
Soft tires for September
Pirelli had already announced the selected tires for the Zandvoort Grand Prix in the Netherlands, which will be the first Grand Prix after the summer break. There, teams will have at their disposal the C1 (hard), C2 (medium), and C3 (soft) tires. This range represents the hardest tyres offered by Pirelli, being used on circuits that put particular stress on these compounds.
On the other hand, for the September Grand Prix, Pirelli has opted for the softest range of their tires. The C3 will be available in hards, the C4 in mediums, and the C5 in softs. As a reminder, the softest tires are particularly well suited to city circuits as the asphalt there is particularly smooth and limits tire degradation.
At Monza, although this circuit is not urban, recent resurfacing work has allowed the use of the softest tires.
The concern of fans
Fans have shared their concerns on social media about the use of soft tires in Singapore, one of the few night races in Formula 1. Temperatures there are particularly high, even at night, staying around 30°C. This heat can accelerate tire degradation and make the race more dangerous, but above all, it increases the need for a solid strategy. Last year, the same tire choice caused numerous slides during Free Practice. Fortunately, the repeated passage of the cars on the track improved the grip of the circuit over time and limited the damage to the race and the qualifications.
Despite everything, soft tires are essential on urban circuits since the passages there are very narrow, so it is difficult to do without these tires despite the high temperatures. Teams will therefore have to manage the wear of their tires accordingly.
The Grand Prix scheduled for the month of September (Italy, Azerbaijan and Singapore) will see the three softest compounds in the range being used: the C3 will be the P Zero White hard, the C4 P Zero Yellow medium and C5 P Zero Red soft, exactly the same choice as 2023. pic.twitter.com/ZfbqM5fXWh
