A few days ago, Alpine revealed the departure of Bruno Famin in the middle of the season, who will leave his position as team director to take charge of the motorsport department at Renault in Viry-Châtillon. Today, Alpine has officially announced his replacement, who will take up his duties at the end of August.

A substitute already expected

While rumors were circulating about the potential replacement for Bruno Famin, Alpine confirmed today that Oliver Oakes would be the new team principal for the remainder of the season. The announcement was made yesterday during the works council meeting in Viry-Châtillon and was officially confirmed in a press release just now. Contrary to what the rumors suggested, Flavio Briatore, the team’s executive advisor, will not take on this role and will continue in his current position.

Oliver Oakes, before joining Alpine, is best known for his role as team manager at Hi-Tech Pulse Eight in Formula 2, which has fielded drivers Paul Aron and Amaury Cordeel this season. He also manages the team of the same name in Formula 3. Oliver Oakes, who owns 75% of the Hi-Tech company, had previously shown his interest in the sport. He had notably tried to enter Formula 1 in the past during the open recruitment by the FIA but had failed to pass the first stage, while Andretti succeeded in their place.

It is therefore with the position of team director that he will finally realize his dream of joining Formula 1. A position of which he is proud, although it differs from his initial plans. With many points in both championships in which his team is currently participating, we can therefore hope to see Alpine make a comeback even though it is not certain to finish the season in good conditions after the revolt of the employees of Viry-Châtillon’s engine factory threatens Alpine to no longer start the single-seaters.
