Ferrari reacts to Carlos Sainz’s departure for Williams
Carlos Sainz's team-mate Charles Leclerc and Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur shared their first impressions of the Spanish driver's departure to Williams. Their comments are proof of a respectful collaboration since 2020.
No more speculations. Carlos Sainz will leave Ferrari at the end of the season to join Williams alongside Alexander Albon next year. This departure marks the end of his career with Ferrari, where he has been for four years.
On the occasion of his departure, his teammate Charles Leclerc and Ferrari team principal, Fred Vasseur, wanted to congratulate the former driver on his new contract.
Leclerc, first to speak
The transfer of Carlos Sainz to Williams was confirmed this week, several months after Ferrari announced the signing of Lewis Hamilton for 2025. With proposals from many teams such as Mercedes, Alpine, or Audi, he finally joined the English team of James Vowles.
After the official announcement, Charles Leclerc was the first to speak out on social media as he wanted to encourage his teammate. “I wish you the best for your new adventure next year, Chili (nickname given to Sainz). We still have half a season left to experience some special moments together as teammates,” read his Instagram account. This message was accompanied by photos of the two Ferrari drivers, including memories of their media days together.
The relationship between the two drivers has experienced many ups and downs during their seasons with the Scuderia, especially with tensions after several contacts in different Grand Prix races. However, they have particularly stood out for the mutual support they continue to provide each other throughout the seasons, so it was not surprising that the Monegasque driver wanted to speak up.
Fred Vasseur proud of his driver.
Charles Leclerc is not the only one who has spoken out on the situation. Several days after the official announcement, Frederic Vasseur congratulated the driver in person. “I am happy to learn that Carlos will go to Williams next season. It is a team with a great history and tradition, founded by an enlightened man with an ambitious vision, so I know that Carlos will feel at home there,” he began by saying. “I have a lot of respect for James Vowles (team principal of Williams) and I am sure that Carlos will make a valuable contribution to his team.”
Carlos Sainz, still committed to Ferrari for the end of the season, retains the support of his team manager until the end. For now, he is still a Ferrari driver and we will work hard in the next ten races, focusing on his objectives and fighting for every point until the last lap of this championship.
Williams is currently undergoing significant changes, with a reconstruction project already underway that seems to have attracted the Spanish driver. At the moment, Carlos Sainz has signed a two-year contract with Williams, with an option for a third season. Therefore, he should remain at least until the end of the 2026 season with the British team. Now we can only hope that Williams’ ambition will enable Sainz to reach the top of the rankings, as he had managed to achieve several victories with Ferrari.
