To participate in a Formula 1 championship organized by the FIA, the International Automobile Federation, there are registration fees. These registration fees are proportional to the position in the constructors’ standings of the previous season and also depend on the number of points scored in the same ranking.
Therefore, we will only be able to know on December 9, the day after the last Grand Prix of the season, how much each team will have to pay in registration fees to be able to participate in the 2025 championship. However, following a recent update to the rules, the FIA has increased the registration costs.
The first in the championship pays more, proportionally
In 2025, the FIA will ask the winner of the 2024 constructors’ championship to pay, as fees, €7,640 ($8,161) per point scored in the 2024 standings as well as €620,821 ($680,203). This represents a 3.4% increase in costs compared to the fees requested in 2024. For example, in 2024, Red Bull, which scored 860 points, had to pay €6.8 million in fees, compared to only €673,249 for Haas (10 times less).
Regarding the other 9 teams, the base amount due is the same, €620,821, but each point scored in the championship requires less registration fees. Therefore, €6,206 will have to be spent per point (€1,434 less than the winner).
Note that at the same time, teams receive income from F1 through TV rights or commercial exploitation of the championship, which had generated over 150 million euros to be shared among the 10 teams at the end of the 2023 balance sheet. (Between 5 and 15 million depending on the position in the championship), thus covering these registration fees.
The FIA specifies that payments must be made on December 10, 2024, which is 2 days after the end of the championship: « the basic fees are due at the time of the application and the balance before December 10 of the year preceding the year to which this application relates. »
In 2024, registration fees had increased by 6.5%.
