Aston Martin declares its big ambitions for 2026. After supposedly bringing Adrian Newey to the team’s headquarters, the Silverstone-based team would have decided to recruit the Dutch triple world champion. This is at least what the Italian media Autosprint claims. This would be a real bombshell within the F1 paddock, already shaken by many transfers and Adrian Newey’s imminent departure from Red Bull.

Two Red Bull transfers at Aston Martin.

Adrian Newey, currently on gardening leave at Red Bull, is said to have been seduced by the proposals of Lawrence Stroll, the billionaire owner of Aston Martin. With an annual salary of 100 million euros and the possibility of staying in the UK with a team equipped with cutting-edge equipment and infrastructure, Adrian Newey could well turn to the team after his departure. According to Autosprint, the announcement of the engineer’s transfer should be made in a few weeks.

But that’s not all. The Italian media reports that Mike Krack, team manager, is also looking to recruit another key member of Red Bull: their star driver Max Verstappen. The British team believes that the arrival of Adrian Newey could persuade the Dutch driver to change teams, despite a contract that ties him to Red Bull until 2028.

Max Verstappen has already been at the center of many rumors early in the season, particularly when the Christian Horner scandal, accused of inappropriate behavior towards an employee, rattled Red Bull. This tense situation fueled speculations of a possible arrival of the Dutchman at Mercedes. Toto Wolff was ready to offer shares of the German team to the driver. While the situation seemed to have calmed down and Max Verstappen appeared ready to finish his contract with Red Bull, things could change quickly if Adrian Newey’s arrival at Aston Martin is confirmed.

Why would Max Verstappen leave Red Bull to join Aston Martin?

First, Aston Martin seems to be on the rise this season. The supposed recruitment of a famous engineer known for his innovative and high-performing cars is proof of this. On the other hand, Red Bull seems to be less successful this year. Pierre Waché, technical director within the Austrian team, has indeed admitted that the car did not meet our expectations this year. Disappointing results that worry the current world champion. Especially with the recent departures of several key team members, including Jonathan Weathley, the sports director who is joining Audi after 18 years of collaboration.

On the other hand, reason marks that Aston Martin will become the Honda factory team in 2026 and will therefore have its engines. Power units that have already proven themselves at Red Bull in the hands of the Dutch driver who would not be against the idea of working again with the Japanese manufacturer. Conversely, Red Bull’s future is more uncertain. The Austrian team has decided to terminate their collaboration with Honda to turn to Ford by 2026 in order to manufacture its own engines. Something they had never done before and which could bring uncertainties to the drivers.

If these rumors are confirmed, Aston Martin could move Lance Stroll, the owner’s son, to their endurance program to drive the Valkyrie. A car developed by Red Bull and Aston Martin in collaboration with Adrian Newey. This maneuver would strengthen the links between the two parties and could materialize these unbelievable. The world of Formula 1 is therefore not finished surprising us and the coming weeks should definitively update the rumors.
