Oscar Piastri: “A slightly disappointing race for me”

Despite a formidable single-seater on the Zandvoort circuit, the McLaren driver had to bow to Ferrari's strategy and the fine defense of its driver Charles Leclerc.

Third on the starting grid of the Dutch Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri did not hesitate to declare after qualifying that he aimed to win the race. Initially overtaken at the start by George Russell, who started behind him, the McLaren driver then had to adapt his strategy after Charles Leclerc’s undercut. As a result, despite leading for a few laps, the Australian failed to regain the upper hand on the Monegasque and must therefore settle for fourth place.

« We scored good points for the team, especially thanks to Lando’s victory, but it’s more disappointing on my side. I made good progress but I found myself in dirty air behind the Ferrari, which had more speed than we thought. I couldn’t score more points.

Despite the disappointment of not having accompanied his teammate to the podium, Piastri leaves Zandvoort with ambition for the rest of the season, especially aboard a currently formidable McLaren.

We do have an excellent car so the next part of the season is surely going to be very pleasant. I can’t wait to be there.

And it continues next weekend with the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on a completely different circuit from that of the North Sea coast.

In the championship, Piastri is still fourth with a thirteen-point gap behind Charles Leclerc and seven ahead of Carlos Sainz. It is worth noting that after eleven Grand Prix races, the two McLaren drivers are the only ones to have scored points in every race.
