Alpine continues to give their young drivers track time. The team continues its testing program for its young talents. After tests in Spielberg with Victor Martins and Kush Maini, then in Spa with Jack Doohan, the French team has scheduled new test days for its drivers from its academy. This week, Jack Doohan and Kush Maini will have the opportunity to drive the A522, the single-seater for the 2022 season, on the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola.

Many tests for Alpine this season.

This decision follows a series of tests already organized by the French team during the year, as part of the young driver testing program. At the beginning of July, the Enstone team had entrusted its 2022 car to two of its young drivers for two days at the Spielberg circuit in Austria. Kush Maini drove on Wednesday, while Frenchman Victor Martins, the current Formula 3 champion, discovered a modern F1 car for the first time on Thursday. An opportunity that the Frenchman greatly appreciated.

« It was a beautiful test day in Austria. It’s incredible to be able to drive a Formula 1 car once again after the three test days I did with the Alpine F1 team in 2023. The feeling of being in the car is amazing, and the day was really enjoyable thanks to the support of the team on site, who worked hard to ensure the test went smoothly. It was another positive test for me, and it was an excellent opportunity to learn as much as possible. »

At Spa, the Frenchman once again had the opportunity to drive the single-seater, alongside the Australian Jack Doohan and the regular driver Esteban Ocon. The Frenchman hoped to have gained the team’s trust to secure a seat as early as 2025, after Ocon’s departure for Haas was announced.

However, it was Jack Doohan who was chosen, the Frenchman struggling at the start of the season with ART in Formula 2, only sitting in twelfth place in the championship, two places and two points behind his teammate Zak O’Sullivan. This week, Martins was not even selected to participate in the two-day tests of the French team at Imola, with Alpine preferring to give the wheel to its future driver, the Australian Jack Doohan, and to Kush Maini, ninth in the Formula 2 World Championship. Doohan will drive on Tuesday while the Indian will take the wheel on Wednesday.
