Logan Sargeant speaks out for the first time after being ousted from Williams
Logan Sargeant looks back on his departure for the first time in a statement that he has since deleted. He takes the opportunity to look back on his experience with the team and thanks Williams for his two seasons in Formula 1. He announces that he will take time to evaluate his options before deciding on his future.
Logan Sargeant’s Formula 1 career abruptly ended when Williams announced his dismissal last night. Sargeant, who had been part of the team since 2022, encountered challenges throughout his time in Formula 1. Only scoring one point in 36 races, Williams decided to replace him with Franco Colapinto, a driver from the Williams Academy.
So far, only James Vowles and Alexander Albon had spoken out about the departure of the American driver. While Logan Sargeant had remained silent on social media, he finally spoke out about the events via his personal app. He did not fail to thank the team and to provide an update on his future after leaving Williams.
First official statement
The American driver had been missing since the official announcement. It was finally through his application that he made his first statement. Since then, the former Williams driver has deleted the post without explaining the reason. In his speech, he took the opportunity to look back on his experience with Williams, first thanking them for the opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car. « Hello everyone, after today’s news, I wanted to say that I am extremely grateful to Williams Racing for giving me my first opportunity in Formula 1,” he began writing. « I am very grateful for the support I have received from the entire team since I joined the Academy in 2021.”
Logan Sargeant had earlier in the year recognized the difficulties encountered with the Williams single-seater, issues that have now been resolved for a few Grand Prix. While James Vowles was waiting for the American to improve his performances after these adjustments, unfortunately, this was not the case. However, he still leaves with his first and only point in Formula 1. « Driving an F1 car for the first time in Abu Dhabi was an unforgettable experience, while becoming the first American to score points since 30 years ago in Austin last season was a truly special moment,” the driver continued in his statement. « I am proud to have represented such a historic team over the past two seasons.”
In the morning, the Williams team manager as well as the official social media accounts of the team had announced that Logan Sargeant was still part of the team. However, they had not indicated what would happen next to the driver. Even if James Vowles was considering a future in another discipline, the comments made by the American himself do not provide any indication in that direction. « For now, I will take the time to evaluate my options before making an announcement about my future when the time comes,” he concluded.
What are his options after leaving?
With his now confirmed dismissal, Logan Sargeant will have to consider his future projects. The end of his Formula 1 adventure with Williams raises questions about his next steps. While there is no indication that he will continue in the field of motorsport, rumors about his arrival in IndyCar had already circulated last month.
Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but this option seems the most plausible given the situation. Especially since the Prema team, competing in the American championship, had confirmed during the summer break that they were currently in discussions with Logan Sargeant. If the signing of the American was not a priority, it could now be considered more seriously. He would thus join other former Formula 1 drivers, including Romain Grosjean and Marcus Ericsson.
